    • For most people, these underlying sources of meaning are much more important than the person or party representing them, but a vote doesn’t capture this. We can only vote for the container of the sources of meaning we care about, not for the source of meaning itself. That's what leads to polarization and disengagement.

    We see the same problem in markets and social media. Our clicks, goals and purchases are poor expressions about what we actually care about; what makes life meaningful to us.
